Our Founding Attorney
George Altgelt has practiced law since 2004 and has more than twenty years of state and federal courtroom experience. He began his career as a front-line prosecutor in the Webb and Zapata County District Attorney's Office, where he handled felony drug, environmental, and intoxication cases, and he has been in private practice since 2006.
Today George defends clients charged with federal drug offenses, federal firearm offenses, alien smuggling and other immigration crimes, and serious state felonies in Laredo and along the U.S.-Mexico border. He is admitted to all four federal district courts in Texas and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Born in Austin and raised in Hays and Zapata Counties, George is a thirteenth-generation Texan who grew up working cattle on his family's ranch in San Ygnacio. He served on the Laredo City Council from 2014 to 2020 and is a Past President of the Laredo-Webb County Bar Association. He co-hosts the podcast On The Border with George Altgelt and appears on KGNS Laredo as a border affairs commentator. He is an avid and capable outdoorsman, and he and his wife Rosa Elia have raised two dynamic daughters.

Altgelt Law Office, P.C. is led by founding attorney George Altgelt, a former prosecutor who has tried cases in Texas state courts, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Laredo Division, and the Fifth Circuit. As a former Laredo City Councilmember and reform candidate, George chose not to take PAC money or allow outside influences to sway his focus, and his dedication to serving the people has earned him trust within the community.
George has assembled an incredible team since establishing Altgelt Law Office, P.C.. This diverse group includes a network of panel attorneys, two private investigators, two paralegals, and a financial manager. Together, the team works as a cohesive unit, making sure clients receive the highest quality of service and sound legal guidance. The firm believes that teamwork leads to better outcomes and strives to support clients in their most challenging moments with compassion and expertise.

Roberto Barrera was raised in the border town of Laredo, Texas.
